Graduation Party

Becky is in charge of serving the refreshments after the
ceremony. There are 112 students graduating and each student
is bringing 2 guests. She expects each person to drink at least
one cup of punch and at least half of the people to drink 2
glasses of punch. How many glasses of punch will she serve?

I got 504 glasses.
1. First, I multiplied 112 by 3 people(1 student and 2 guests) and got 336 people.
2. Then I divided 336 people by 2 and got 168 people.
3. Then I turned the # of people into cups.
4. Finally I added 336 cups and 168 cups and got 504 glasses.

112 students each bring 2 guests thats 336 people. Half of the people will drink 2 glasses which is 336 cups. Add thee half that will drink one which is 168 and add that to 336 which is 504 cups. Then convert. 252 pints,126 quarts,31 and 1/2 gallons.

Becky will bring 31 and 1/2 gallons to the graduation.

112 x 3 = 336 divided by 2 = 168 So 168 will drink one cup of punch and the other half will drink 2 cups 2 x 168 = 336 + 168 = 504 cups of punch needed for the party.

What I did to find the answer is I multiplied 112 by 3 people because it says them and 2 guests and got 336 people.I then divided by 2 bacause it says one half will have 2 glasses of punch and got 168 people will have 2 glasses. Then I added the 2 together to get a total of 504 glasses.

I got my answer by multiplying the number of students by 3 since there would be the student and 2 guests.( 356)
Then I multiplied that by 2 because half of the people would be drinking 2 cups, and my answer is 712 cups of punch.

She will serve 504 glasses of punch!

First to solve the problem I wrote down all of the important information that the problem told me. Second I multiplied 112 times 3 to equal the students plus the 2 people that each student brought and got 336. Next I divided 336 by 2 to get the half that drank 2 glasses of punch. Last I added 336 people so 336 cups to start with to 168 which is 336 divided by 2 and got 504 cups/glasses.

I think that 244 people will drink punch.

First, I multiplied the number of students by the number of guests per student to get 224 guests. Then I added that to 112 students to have 336 people total. If everybody drinks 2 glasses, she will need to serve 672 glasses of punch, which I got by multiplying 336 by 2. If we only bring enough for 168 people to have 2 glasses, and 200 want 2, we will have a problem, so that is why I solved for everybody wanting 2 glasses of punch.

112 multipied by 2 equals 224. Then 112 times 2 equals 224 (again)
Then 224 plus 112 equals 336 is the answer.

This is how I got the answer:

I multiplied 112x3 because each student is bringing 2 more people. The answer is 336. Then I divided that in half which was 168. That is how many drinks half of the people will drink. I multiplied that by two and got 336 and I added them together and got the answer: 504! becky needs 504 glasses of punch to serve

Andrewc. Centanni said...

The answer is 336 because when you do 112 times 2 you get 224 which is how much glasses half of the guests will drink then you add 112 to the total to get the final total of 336 cups of punch

Justin J.-Centanni said...

I did 112x2=224 people (Total or In All), 224x1=224x2=448 glasses of punch she will serve in all.

I got 336 cups because
112- students are graduating
x 2- each student is bring 2 guests
-------
224- people/half of the people is
drinking 2 cups
+112-expexts each person to drink at
least 1 cup
---------
336- is the answer

I got 168 people . What I did was I multiplied 112x3.-the graduates 1the 2 guest 3 counting the graduates and got 336. Next I divided 336 by 2 for the half and ended up with 168.

Ava T.-Buckalew said...

first i multiplied 112 by 2 and got 224. then i split 224 in half[112] and multiplied 112 by 2. [ 2 for 2 cups, 112 half of 224 ] then multiplied 112 by 1 [112]. then added 112 by 224 and got 336.

The people that are coming totals up to 336. Then all people drink at least one. So that is 336 cups so far. Then half of the people will drink another glass. Half of 336 is 168. Add 168 to 336 she will serve 504 cups

A=504 cups

in total there is going to be 224 people at the party.
112 people is going to drink 2 cups.
and 112 people is going to drink 1 cup. 112x2=224+112=336cups
The answer is 336 cups.

Rachel S-Centanni said...

First I did 112 times 2 to find the number of guests. 112 x 2= 224. 224 plus 112 graduates equals 336 people. Then I divided 336 by 2, and I got 168. 168 people are going to drink one cup of punch, and 168 people are going to drink two cups of punch. 168+ 336= 504. They will need 504 cups of punch.

75 cups will be served because i did 112 x 2= 224 then i did 224 divided by 3= 74 r 2 and just put the 2 away and make it a 75.

1.I do 112 people at the party times 2 people that are coming and that is 224 people.
112 people times 2= 224
2.I divide it by 2 sooooo... 224 divided by 2 = 112
3. I do 112 times 1 = 112 because half of the people drink 1 glass
4.i do 112 times 2 and it = 224 then i add them up
224 + 112 = 336 cups

First I multiplied 112 people by 3people with them and I got 336 total people. Then I divided 336 people by 2 and got 168. Then I multiplied 168 by 1 and got 168 cups. Then I multiplied 168 by2 and got 336 cups. Next I added 168+336 and got a final answer of 504 cups.

112 divided by two is 56 x2=112
so 112x2=224.

224x3=672 glasses

First I did 112 times 3 and got 336 ( the number of people that is going to be at the graduation). Then divided 336 by 2 and got 168 which is the amount of people she is expecting to get 2 glasses of punch . Next I multiplied 168 and 2 to get 336 glasses of punch plus 168 glasses of punch to get my answer : of 504 glasses of punch.

zachD.-Buckalew said...

First, I multiplied 112x3= 336 to find out the number of guests. Becky expects each guest to drink at least one glass of punch, so I took 336, the number of people that would have one drink each, and the divided by 2 to get half of the people that would have another drink.
To get the final answer, I added
336+168=504, so 504 is the total number of glasses of punch she will serve.

Then I added 168 to 336 to get 504 which is the amount of how many glasses she will need to make.

112 kids, (112) 2= 224. Then add 112 for 1/2 of the people drinking 2 glasses. So you get 336.
