is 1.5 ft long and 1.5 ft wide. The center aisle must be 4 ft

Problem of the Week for February 14th

Carlos bought Streamers to hang around the edges of the gym.  He bought 2 black rolls and 2 white rolls.  Each roll is 75 feet long.  The gym is 100 feet wide.  if Carlos needs to buy another 2 rolls of streamers to cover the perimeter of the gym, how long is the gym?

Problem of the Week Answer: The Puppy's Pen

The answer to last week's problem was any combination of measurements that gave you a perimeter of 50 feet.  The pen that would give the puppy the most room to play would have been a pen that was 13ft by 12ft which would give an area of 156 feet.

Problem of the Week February 7th

Miss Guy has a very energetic puppy. The puppy loves to play outdoors, so Miss Guy decided to build a pen to allow her pet to be outside while she is at school. She just happens to have 50 feet of fencing in her basement that she can use for the pen.

What are some of the ways she can set up the pen that uses all the fencing?

What are the dimensions of the rectangular pen with the most space available for the puppy to play?

Answer to problem of the week

The answer to last week's problem is 15 days or 16 depending on if you counted their initial amounts as day 1.  On Day 15 or 16 the amounts would be double at 24 links and 48 links.  You should have made a table and added until you got to the day when the amount was doubled!  Great work guys!!!!

Answer to Problem of the week January 24

The answer to this week's problem is $105.60.

1. Consider the area of the room with the two closets:  15 feet x 14 feet=210 square feet

2. Now take out the area of the two closets (16 square feet and 18 square feet for a total of 34 square feet)

3. Subtract 34 sq. ft. from 210 sq. ft. to get 176 square feet of ground that needs to be covered with carpet.

4. Multiply 176 square feet by $.60 to get the total for the carpet which is $105.60.

Problem of the Week for January 31

Barb Wire adds 1 link to her paper chain every day. Chuck Stake adds 3 links
to his paper chain every day. Barb's chain has 9 links right now, and Chuck's
chain has 3 links right now. If they keep adding links at the same rate, how
many days will it be before Chuck's chain has exactly TWICE as many links as
Barb's chain?
