Penny a Day

You have just won a contest!
You must choose between 2 prizes. You may choose $.75 a day for 15 days or you may choose a penny the 1st day, which doubles every day for 15 days. Find out which prize you would choose.
Please do a writing (using good math language and symbols), which tells how and why you made your choice. Include a chart, graph or table that helped you solve the problem.

I would choose the penny that doubles every day. Because the 75 cents times 15 days equals 11.25. I added up all the doubles and got 227.47.

my choice would be to start out with a penny because i kept multiplying x2 and got 163.84$if you get .75 per day you only get 11.25 because i did a chart and that is what i got

I chose the double the penny and my answer was 16,384 pennys because it said for you to double it so i kept doubling till i got 15 days for prove i have a paper.

The 1st prize’s product is $10.75 . The 2nd prize’s sum is $0.31. I got this answer by making a chart listing the # of days and the# of pennies each day. I got 1 penny on the first day, 3 pennies on the second day and so forth. I got the first prize answer by 75 by 15 because there are 15 days that you get the cents and you get 75 cents each day. I would choose the first prize because it is worth more money.

I made two charts on my white board. When I was done I looked at the two numbers and I would choose the second option, because the first option was only $1,125. The second option was $16,384.

I would pick the prize that gives you 1 penny each day, and that doubles each day because it gives you more money.And lets be honest EVERYONE wants more money!!!

firs I did .75 multiply by 15 and I got 11.25. then I multiply 15 by 2 and I got 30 cents so the first the one is better because you get more money

I would choose the 75 cents a day for 15 days because when you multiply 75 cents by 15 days you get 1,125 and then you move the decimal over 2 places to get $11.25. Now if you added up 1-15 you would get 122 which when you move the decimal over you would get $1.22.
Sorry I cannot get a table or chart.

first prize: .75x15=$11.25
second prize: $163.84
I would choose the second prize because it would be more money. to find out the 2nd prize, I made an input output table.

then I had to find out how much it would cost in dollars.

i would chose prize number 2 because prize #1 is only $11.25 (.75 x 15) and prize #2 is worth $163.84.

For the first prize you multiply.75 x 15 which comes to $11.25. by the 13th day I would have gotten $20.48 so I choose the second prize.

I multiply $.75 times 15 days and got $11.25. So the first would be $11.25. I would use a chart with 30 boxes, 15 for 15 days. I put 1 penny in the first box and keep multiplying 2. I got $163.84 for the second prize so I would get the second prize because it has more.

For me to be able to make a decision, I had to find out how much each choice made total. I would pick choice 2 because choice 1, I did .75 x 15 and got 11.25. Choice 2, I did .01, x2 everyday [for 15 days] and got 163.84. Of course, choice 2 is more, so I would pick it because I could get more value out of it. I also like these choices because you have use math to be able to pick the better choice.

If I choose the 1st prize which is $.75 a day for 15 days, I would solve it like this: First I multiply $.75 times 15 days and get $11.25 total. Second prize: On day 1 I would get one penny. The next day it doubled so I would get $.02. The pattern would continue:
Day 1 $.01
Day 2 $.02
Day 3 $.04
Day 4 $.08
Day 5 $.16
Day 6 $.32
Day 7 $.64
Day 8 $1.28
Day 9 $2.56
Day 10 $5.12
Day 11 $10.24

The sum of all 15 days is $327.67. I would definitely choose the second prize because the total amount of money received is much greater than the first prize!

i would get the penny prize because when they 15 days are up i would have $70.4 than the .75 cents i would have $11.25 by 15 days and i brougt a piece of paper of my chart

the ancer is 75$ a day for 15 days cas if you chosed a penny a day for 15 days it wholed end up as 3,9034 pennys wich is 39$ and 34 cents but 75$ a day for 15 days whold be 19,584$

i would choose double penny because it would show 47 doller in 15 days while if i choose 75 cent for 15 days it will be 11 dollers and 25 cents so i would choose the double penny

I would pick 1 cent that doubles daily for 15 days b/c it is more money than 75 cents daily for 15 days.

first, I will mulitiply 17 and 15 to fined out how much money I can get for the first choice.then I figure out how much money I can get fore the second chice.to do that I figure out how many money I get each day and add all up.
17*15=255 $2.55

1+2+4+8+16+32+64+128+256+512+1024+2048+4096+8192+16384=32767 327.67

I will pick the penny that dobles each day because I can get $327.67.

I would choose option 2 because you would get more money than you would if you got .75 for each of the 15 days.

You have to multiply to get the products of the two options.

you would want the prize with the pennies for 15 days. I made a T-chart. it represented the 1st prize, and the second prize. All I really did was multiply $.75 x 15 days which is $11.25. On the pennies side, the total number of pennies out of 15 days was $327.67. So, you would want to choose the prize with the pennies.

The answer would be the second one because all of them doubled would be 11.87 and the first one .75 a day for 15 days would be 11.25.

what i would choose is the penny doubleing every day for 15 days because i made a table starting with 1 cent and doubled and doubled and doubled untill 15 days and got 16,384 cents and when i did it with 75 cents i ended up with 1,125 cents so that is why i wold choose the penny
